  • About the Event POPM 6.0.1

    This two-day course prepares attendees for the SAFe® 6.0.1 Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM) Certification exam.

    Develop the skillsets needed to guide the delivery of value in a Lean enterprise by becoming a SAFe® 6 Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM). During this two-day course, attendees gain an in-depth understanding of how to effectively perform their role in the Agile Release Train (ART) as it delivers value through Program Increments.

    Attendees explore how to apply Lean thinking to decompose Epics into Features and Stories, refine Features and Stories, manage Program and Team backlogs, and to plan and execute Iterations and Program Increments. Attendees also discover how the Continuous Delivery Pipeline and DevOps culture contribute to the relentless improvement of the ART.

    By the end of this course, attendees are able to write Epics, Capabilities, Features, and User Stories within the context of SAFe, and have a solid foundation for managing backlogs and programs in a Lean-Agile enterprise.

    Learning Goals

    To perform the role of a SAFe® Product Owner/Product Manager, attendees should be able to:

    • Articulate the Product Owner and Product Manager role
    • Connect SAFe Lean-Agile principles and values to the PO/PM roles
    • Decompose Epics into Features and decompose Features into Stories
    • Refine Features into Stories
    • Manage Program and Team backlogs
    • Collaborate with Agile teams in estimating and forecasting work
    • Represent Customer needs in Program Increment Planning
    • Execute the Program Increment and deliver continuous value

    Prerequisites

    All are welcome to attend the course, regardless of experience.

    However, the following prerequisites are highly recommended:

    • Experience with Lean, Agile, or other relevant certification

    General Course Improvements

    SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM) 6.0.1 is a significant update from the previous version.

    The course has been updated to align with changes associated with SAFe 6.0 and to incorporate feedback from the community to make the course more effective. •

    1. The content of SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager is updated to reflect and incorporate the core responsibilities of Agile Teams and Agile Release Trains. 
    2. The SAFe® POPM certification exam has been refactored to reflect the changes to the course content. 
    3. A new certification badge appears throughout the course slides and other course materials.
    4.  In alignment with SAFe 6.0, a new version of the SAFe Big Picture has been incorporated throughout the course materials. All instances of the SAFe Big Picture align with SAFe 6.0. •
    5. At the end of each applicable lesson (except Lesson 6: Practicing SAFe) a slide has been added to identify any references to third-party material. Citations for quotes or books used to develop the lesson content are also included in the references slide. •
    6. An Action Plan slide is included at the end of each lesson. All Action Plan slides have been updated to include lesson-specific prompts for internal reflection or group discussion.
    7.  All trainer guidance has been reviewed and updated to provide clarity, additional examples, and additional resources to better support trainers. 
    8. The trainer guidance in all lesson topics slides offers guidance on aligning the lesson topic with the learning objectives. 
    9. All activity guidance has been reviewed to minimize the need for alternative instructions or activities for remote or hybrid course offerings. 
    10. Additional course improvements include bug fixes, modified slide layouts, updated graphics, and corrected typos, grammar, and punctuation
