Agile Software Engineering (ASE) Updated to 6.0 – Why the Update Matters

The Agile Software Engineering (ASE) course has been refreshed to better reflect current best practices and to align with the latest Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) 6.0 guidance. Here’s what’s new—and why these changes matter:

Key Reasons for the Update

  • Alignment with SAFe 6.0 Framework
The ASE course has been updated to ensure full compliance with the SAFe 6.0 guidance. This ensures that the content remains relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with the most current thinking in the Agile community.
  • Grounded in Agile Fundamentals
The updated ASE course reaffirms its focus on the foundational principles of Agile software engineering—collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement—while incorporating new practices that support enterprise-level agility.
  • Reflects the Broader Evolution of Agile
While Agile started in software development, it has grown into a broader organizational mindset. The revised ASE course respects that evolution while staying true to the core technical practices that remain essential to Agile success.

Certification Process Update: Introducing the Completion Quiz

  • From Exam to Completion Quiz
Learners are no longer required to pass a traditional exam to earn their ASE certification. Instead, a new completion quiz format has been introduced to make the process more learner-friendly, without compromising rigor.
  • What Is a Completion Quiz?
    • Shorter Format: Completion quizzes are more concise than formal exams, designed to validate core understanding rather than memorization.
    • Feedback-Focused: Learners receive immediate, item-level feedback on incorrect answers, including guidance on areas to review—turning the quiz into a learning opportunity.
    • High Standard: A 90% cut score ensures that learners demonstrate a strong grasp of key concepts.
    • Knowledge Check: Think of it as a confidence check to ensure learners are ready to apply what they've learned in the real world.

    Agile Software Engineering

Enabling Technical Agility for the Lean Enterprise

with Certified SAFe® Agile Software Engineer

The discipline of software engineering has evolved with the introduction of Lean-Agile and DevOps principles and practices. New skills and approaches help organizations deliver software-centric solutions faster, more predictably, and with higher quality.

During this three-day, workshop-oriented course, attendees learn the foundational principles and practices that make up the Agile Software Engineering discipline. Attendees learn how the continuous flow of value delivery and built-in quality are enabled by modern practices including XP technical practices, Behavioral-Driven Development (BDD), and Test-Driven Development (TDD).

Attendees learn proven practices to detail, model, design, implement, verify, and validate stories in a SAFe Continuous Delivery Pipeline. They will know the practices that build quality into code (abstraction, encapsulation, intentional programming) and designs (SOLID, Design patterns). Attendees also understand how Software Engineering fits into the larger solution context and their role in collaborating on intentional architecture and DevOps.
